Wonju Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge
During the fall I wanted to get out to hike some of the suspension bridges throughout Korea. I only made it to one with my husband and I’s crazy travel schedule, but it was a beauty! Wonju Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge, 원주 소금산 출렁다리, with a length of 200 meters and height of 100 meters is located in Wonju, roughly ninety minutes by car from Humphreys.
I went during the week so it wasn’t overly crowded and there were plenty of parking spaces on site. There are restrooms available in the parking lot, then you will take a walk through a small village area filled with shops and restaurants before getting to the ticket counter. The stroll through the village was peaceful with leaves falling all around and there was a lively man playing music that you could hear while ascending the 600 steps to the first bridge.
When I stepped on the bridge I was surprised how much it moved, I knew it would move some, but when you are that high-up and swaying, it seems a bit more dramatic than perhaps it actually was.
I didn’t realize there was a second bridge you could cross until I spotted it from this one. After you get across the blue bridge, you will follow the beautiful nature path on the mountain that will eventually lead you to the second one.
Fall is by far my favorite time of the year, so seeing all of the vivid fall foliage paired with the crisp weather made a fantastic day for this scenic hike.
A Korean corn dog on the way out to satiate my growling stomach was the perfect way to end this half day adventure to the Wonju Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge!
