5 Sights to Visit in Geoje Island

It’s been a long winter in South Korea. With the tease of spring in the air, we loaded up the car and made the four hour drive south to the quaint island of Geoje. Since it was still the off season, most places were pretty quiet which we really enjoyed. The first morning we made the trip into Jinhae for the Cherry Blossom festival, but the rest of the weekend we spend exploring the island. Here are a few places to check out if you are planning a trip to Geoje Island!

Geoje Maengjongjuk Theme Park (Bamboo Forest)

This was a small bamboo park and was mostly empty while we were there. This was perfect for our newly two year old who wanted to walk up ALL of the steps which certainly took a while. Towards the top it opens up to stunning views and a bonus was seeing the cherry blossoms in bloom on the hill.

Hakdong Pebble Beach

I don’t know about you, but our toddler LOVES rocks, so the pebble beach was a must see. Pro, he loved picking up the rocks, con, he did not love walking on the rocks.

Windy Hill

This was most touristy place we went (other than the cherry blossom festival) and pretty crowded by the time we arrived. There were a few Korean dramas filmed out there, so that plus the stunning views is a huge draw for visitors. Get there early if you want to avoid the crowds!

Oedo Nursery (Cafe)

This cafe looks like a greenhouse from the outside and is filled with lots of greenery inside. I was so excited to sit down and get my afternoon caffeine fix when disaster struck. I picked up Emmy and apparently she wanted my coffee more than me. She grabbed for it and dumped it ALL over us, my phone and the floor. After a brief mourning period for my empty coffee cup and my white sneakers, a moment of gratitude it was iced coffee, I recomposed and ordered another to go. On the way out, Leif and I spent some time roaming the courtyard with the colorful spring flowers in bloom.

If you are driving there, follow the signs for the parking lot that is actually past the cafe in a paid lot and follow the stickers on the ground to get to the cafe. The cafe will validate parking for up to an hour and a half (don’t forget to ask for the ticket before you leave!)

Coastal Walk 옥하마을 해맞이길 산책로

On our last afternoon in Geoje, Derik found this perfect coastal walk over the water that we embarked on late afternoon (after nap time). Since it was still off season, we only encountered a handful of people on the walk so we enjoyed taking our time on the bridge. It was the perfect way to end our getaway weekend!
