Best Cafes Near Camp Humphreys

I had previously written, 5 Cafe’s to Check out Near Humphreys, for the February 2023 issue of United on the RoK, but I wanted to do an updated post to includes a few more. All of these cafes are within ten minutes of Camp Humphreys with the exception of Inju, which is located in Asan, twenty minutes away.

  1. Cafe Louis

Cristina, who owns Cafe Louis, is one of the sweetest people I have met in Korea. She welcomes guests by name and makes you feel like you are sitting in your mom's kitchen at home enjoying a meal. Her intimate cafe is perfect for coffee with friends or lingering for hours getting work done. She has seasonal drink specials like a S'mores Latte during the winter, a Honey Lavender Latte in the spring, and Brazilian Lemonade when the temperatures warm up. She also has several fabulous brunch and dessert options (like her new Crookie pictured above). Cafe Louis is located outside the Millet Gate, about a quarter of a mile down on the left-hand side.

Address: 19 Anjeong-ro, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do

Hours: Check Instagram for hours as they vary.

2. The Cottage

Located across the street from Roasters, the Cottage is designed to look and feel like a quaint cottage, perfect for curling up with a good book. If you crave specialty drinks like pumpkin spice lattes, peppermint mochas, and butterbeer lattes, you should go to imbibe at the Cottage. They also offer a wide variety of donuts, and what has become a personal favorite of mine is the Croffle. They have a fantastic assortment of children’s books upstairs that my son immediately runs to whenever we are there. The only downside to the Cottage is that it’s very intimate upstairs, so you won't all fit if you have a larger group.

Address: 40 Anjeong-ro, Paengseong-eup, Pyeongtaek-ski, Gyeonggi-do

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 7-14:00, Saturday & Sunday 10:00-19:00

3. Pallet Coffee

Making Turkish sand coffee at Pallet Coffee

I went to Pallet Coffee with a large group during the winter. Despite the chill outside, the inside was nice and toasty, thanks to the wood furnace in the middle of the room. We watched in fascination as the owner carefully crafted each of our Turkish coffees in the hot sand. At the same time, we enjoyed a sampler of Turkish delights. You can learn how to make your own Turkish sand coffee here; two people or more are required for the experience. And, if the name didn’t give it away, the cafe is constructed of wooden pallets.

Address: Danggeo 3-gil, Oseong-myeon, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do

Hours: 12-22:00 Tuesday-Sunday

4. DewDrop Cafe

Jisu at DewDrop

Located near the Brownstone Apartments, Dewdrop has become a go to for me since they open at 7:00. If you haven’t learned yet, most cafés in Korea open later in the morning (typically 10:30/11:00) than what we are accustomed to in the US, and stay open late, sometimes until midnight. It’s nice to have somewhere to go work other than the Starbucks on base after dropping off the kids in the morning. DewDrop is also great for larger groups to meet and hang out and they now offer a large assortment of French pastries and desserts.

Address: 369-10 Anjeong-ri, Paengseong-eup, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do

Hours: Monday-Friday 7-22:00, Saturday & Sunday 10-22:00.

5. Roasters

Roasters interior

Located about a half a mile outside of the Anjeong-ri gate, Roasters is a super cozy cafe with a variety of brews to satisfy any coffee palate, with options for non-coffee drinkers. If I need an afternoon pick me up, I will occasionally find myself here because it’s so comfy to work from and has a great vibe. They roast their beans on Tuesdays, so make sure you grab a fresh bag to take home then.

Address: Gyeonggi-do, Pyeongtaek-si, Paengseong-eup, Anjeong-ro, 43 KR

Hours: 7 days a week, 10:30-22:30

6. The Archive Cafe

Goat outside Archive Cafe

Located along the river, the Archive is an Instagrammers and pastry lover’s dream. When you walk up to the brick building, you are greeted with a quote from KJH, the café owner: “The Archive is where you record and store your day.” Inside is a vast industrial style café with three floors plus a rooftop to choose from for seating. Perfect for larger groups, the café offers an extensive menu of pastries and sweets along with your typical coffee options. Because of its location along the river and popularity, the drinks are a bit pricier than the other locations in this article. It’s certainly worth checking out at least once, and if coffee isn’t your thing, there are two white goats grazing outside you can watch from their outdoor seating.

Address: 468, Gangbyeon-ro, Oseong-myeon, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi-do South Korea

Hours: 7 days a week, 10-23:00

7. Ten Dogs Cafe

Ten Dogs is probably one of the most popular cafes in the area. This was one of the first cafés we visited when we arrived at Humphreys and our introduction into the coffee culture in South Korea. Every inch of the café is perfectly curated for your social media feed from the moment you step in the door. The fun thing about Ten Dogs (hence the name) is the outdoor space where you can bring your fur babies while enjoying your favorite beverage.

Address: 752 Gyeyang-ro, Paengseong-eup, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do

Hours: Tuesday-Sunday, 11-22:30 (closed Monday)

8. Cafe Hangout

Located in the heart of the Ville, Cafe Hangout has the BEST cookies I have ever had. I have no idea what they put them in; perhaps it's fairy and unicorn dust, but if you are a cookie fan, this is the café for you. Their Pumpkin Spice Latte in the fall is fantastic, and they accept custom cake orders for parties and events.

Address: 95 Anjeongsunhwan-ro 222beon-gil, Paengseong-eup, Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 11-21:00, Sunday 12-19:00

9. Inju Cafe

Inju is located in Asan which is about a twenty minute drive from Camp Humphreys. It was designed to look like an old traditional tea house inside and out. The cafe offers both regular style seating, as well as lots of floor seating if you are lucky enough to snag one of the coveted rooms. They have a wide variety of pastries and sweets along with an extensive drink menu.

Address: 1608 Asanman-ro, Inju-myeon, Asan-si, Chungcheongnam-do

Hours: 10 AM to 10 PM 7 days a week

There are certainly many cafes near Camp Humphreys, but these are some of our favorites that we have enjoyed during our time here. If there are changes to hours or offerings I will do my best to update the post.
